Brigid is one of the oldest and most beloved Celtic dieties. She was believed to be the goddess of creativity, artists, poets, healers and craftspersons, particularly the guardian of forge and hearth. She was of the Tuatha De Danann, the Tribe of the Goddess Danu and the daughter of the Daghda, the God of Great Knowledge. Known also as Bride, Briginda, Brigidu and Briganda, she was the High or Exalted One, also the Ashless Flame, Flame of Two Eternities, and Mother of All Wisdom. One of the triple aspect dieties, she took the form of three sisters, all named Brigid.
One of Brigid's most potent symbols is the flame, represented here by the sun. Her's was the fire of the hearth and forge, the flame of inspiration and healing. An equally important symbol is her connection to water, uniting the underworld with the overworld as a source of inspiration, healing and purification.
The first day of February, known as Imbolg, is dedicated to Brigid and is a celebration of spring and fertility since she is the patron goddess of domestic animals. As Saint Brigid, or Saint Bride, the patron saint of Ireland, she is believed to have founded the monastary of Kildare, meaning the Church of the Oak. She taught the Christian faith by weaving crosses out of rushes, known as Brigid's Cross, which are still made and hung in cottages for protection on February first, believed to be the date of Saint Brigid's death.
I still get tired easily so please limit phone calls to the hours of 9:00 to 4:00 Mountain Time, Monday through Saturday. If you don't reach me, please leave a message and I will return your call.
Suspending New Orders Between February 16 & March 10, 2010
Due to logistical and time constraint problems in finishing and shipping orders in a timely manner, I am suspending any new orders between February 16 and March 10, 2010. I am hoping that this will give Marjory a chance to get caught up on all outstanding orders and to work out scheduling conflicts with her other fulltime job.
If we are able to get everything back on track and production problems resolved, we will restore order buttons on March 10th with many of the items out of stock since before Christmas once again ready to be ordered. New castings were done in January but since they have not yet been inventoried, I haven't been able to put up order buttons for them.
Many people don't realize that each piece of Black Horse Design jewelry is completely handmade and finished at the time the order is received. None of our jewelry is mass produced or purchased from another source which means you are buying a piece of jewelry made with personal attention to quality and detail. It also means that we seldom have jewelry available to ship immediately like resellers do.
My apologies to everyone who has waited an extended period of time to receive your orders and my sincere thanks for your patience. I truly hope these problems can be resolved so that Black Horse Design jewelry will be available again with a reasonable turnaround.
If you would like to know when an already placed order will be shipped, please phone Marjory at 484-480-5854.
