Oak
The ancient druids revered the oak above all other trees and considered it to be the King of the Forest, hosting the power, strength and spirit of the gods. Many believed the oak was the first tree created and its acorns the first food of mankind. In Celtic tradition, the Oak King must battle the Holly King for supremacy at Yule. As king of the waxing year, the Oak King must defeat the Holly King, who represents the waning year, at the winter solstice. At Midsummer, the two battle again, this time with the Holly King as the victor.
