In Roman art Diana often appears as a huntress accompanied by a Greyhound, horse or young stag. The Greeks knew her as Artemis and to both cultures she was the guardian of the hunt and the protector of all animals. Diana was praised for her strength, athletic grace, beauty and hunting skills so it was no surprise that she was often depicted with greyhounds and horses who shared those same attributes.
